Being a medical ethicist and patient advocate, I fully support the connection between the duty of candour and the duty of care as it is the latest development. - Being a medical ethicist and patient advocate, I fully support the connection between the duty of candour and the duty of care as it is the latest development. The principle of dignity, which is largely known as the responsibility of healthcare professionals to always act in a manner which is respectful and honest with their patients, is bound up with the principle of care, which calls for an unfailing dedication to the best interests of these patients during the very course of their medical care. The function of candour is twofold: it not only deepens the need to care but also builds reliability and openness between patients and healthcare workers.
